Cathy and I are exploring Quebec’s North Shore traveling east from Quebec City to Baie Comeau along the St Lawrence River. We are traveling in the early fall and some colours are changing as we head north east. (We did parts of this trip a few winters ago and you can read about it here .)
We stay at Auberge Beausejour in St Joseph de la Rive. It’s a friendly place and do try the braised beef for dinner.
A highlight, the Maritime Museum de Charlevoix is a 5 minutes walk from our Auberge. Over 500 wooden schooners were built at this site to handle the coastal transport of logs, coal, fish, machinery, and the illicit trade in drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Also we take the free ferry to the island and buy some hard cider from Pedenaux ciderie.
We continue our drive through coastal villages on our way to Baie Comeau.
In Baie Comeau we walk along the rock snake. A local 8 year old boy with cancer has made this a special wish. We see over 17,000 painted rocks snaking along the waterfront pathway.
And tonight we say good bye to the North Shore as we take the ferry across the Gulf of St Lawrence to Matane on South Shore.
Next we are off to the beaches of Prince Edward Island.
