Cathy and I tour St Kitts by taxi, our first stop as we visit various islands in the South Carribean while cruising on the Celebrity Eclipse. I will post about our other ports of call – Antigua, Puerto Rico and Puerto Plata – over the next few weeks.
At the cruise terminal, we hire a cab driver for a few hours to drive us around St Kitts. Hint: this cost us with tip US$60, a fraction of the cost of Celebrity’s similar tour and ours was semi private. And our taxi driver was an excellent guide as well. Look for a taxi license plate with T or TA on it. This means that they are official. I expect costs may increase temporarily as gas prices in St Kitts are now US$10 per gallon with current issues with Venesuela and Iran disrupting gas and diesel supply.
So what did we see? Colorful towns, lush green country side, near deserted black sand beaches, an old Spanish fort on Brimestone Hill, a batik workshop and the remains of sugar plantations and refineries. All part of a historical timeline reaching back to the 1500’s.
