Cathy and I spent 6 days celebrating winter Quebec City style. My brother Jim and nephew Lee joined us. Les Quebecois really know how to enjoy winter, and we were especially lucky to combine skiing and winter carnival.
We skied Mont Sainte-Anne Ski Resort and Le Massif with great snow and temperatures around freezing. Hebergement Mont Sainte-Anne at the base of Mont Sainte-Anne is a great ski in – ski out condo hotel. It is an easy drive over to Le Massif, which is a smaller resort that boasts the highest vertical east of the Rockies and an amazing view over the ice flows of the Gulf of St Lawrence.
Our next stop was Vieux Quebec City. We stayed at Les Lofts du Tresor and highly recommend this small apartment hotel. It is on a lane-way filled with street artists and it is in the shadow of the Chateau Frontenac and the Basilica, right in the middle of Winter Carnival. One tip: when you get chilled, do what the locals do. Go to an ice bar, order a caribou which is equal portions of hot red wine, maple syrup and rye whiskey, and sit by the bonfire.
To cap off our excellent adventure, we took the train back home to Toronto. Business Class on Via Rail is a well earned and appreciated luxury after a busy few days.
Thank you Cathy (and Joe!) for sharing this blog with me! I love traveling as well and our chat about Quebec city and Morocco were inspiring!!! Best, Marc DuPere
