Crossing the Rockies

calgary to whistlerFor several days, we have followed the famous river valleys –  Columbia, Thompson, Fraser – through  Field, Golden, Revelstoke, Salmon Arm, Cache Creek, Lillooet, Pemberton.  Towns in the Rockies shaped by the railway, lumber, mining and now, front country and back country tourism.

To our surprise the campsites in Glacier National Park were still closed due to winter snow and heavy rain so we stayed in Revelstoke.  Our stay at Peaks Lodge was excellent, and Pat was a great host.  We decided to try out the Nels Nelson ski jump.  In the 1930’s, the man held the woman’s hand for the jump.  No helmets.  Crazy.

The short hikes on the Giant Cedar and the Skunk Cabbage Boardwalks are excellent.
