On a cold wintery and snowy day, we celebrate a special birthday with a daytrip to the Elora Gorge.
Elora and the Gorge
About a 90 minute drive north west of Toronto, Elora is split by the Grand River. We go to see the Gorge, visit the local shops all decked out for Christmas, and tuck into an elegant lunch at The Elora Mill Restaurant/Hotel/Spa .
The Elora Mill Restaurant
Having made reservations some while ago, we get our wish for a window table overlooking the Gorge and the Falls. We all try the 3 course prix fixe menu – delicious choices and generous portions make this an excellent value at $60. Cathy tries the wine pairings and I have some really good Lady Friend IPA from the Elora Brewing Company. The servers and staff are friendly and attentive.
Looking forward to a summer visit
Definitely we will return to Elora in the summer to check out more of the town, do some hiking in the conservation areas, and extend our range to Fergus, a sister town to Elora with an interesting vintage main street.
