A Ski Day at Brian Head Resort in Southern Utah

Three consecutive days – hike, golf, and ski.  This is the life.  Little wonder that St George is the fastest growing city in the USA.

So a little about skiing at Brian Head Resort .  It’s about 1 1/2 hours drive north of St George where we are staying.  The last few miles is a snaky road up to the resort and we see bigger snowdrifts as we ascend.  The base lodge is at 9500′ elevation and we take a high speed chairlift to 11,000′.  (This is 9000′ higher than St George, which explains the golf and skiing duo.)  The Resort has been blessed with over 300″ of snow this year, and the slopes today are well groomed corduroy.  It is windy and cold, and we have flat light until mid afternoon when the sun and blue sky’s arrive.  That said, the snow conditions are great, there are no lift lines, and we have a great time.  We are committed to getting back to Brian Head at least once more before we leave for some spring skiing.

Note: The Resort really encourages you to buy your lift tickets on line and in advance.  Six days  before our ski day the ticket price is $67, four days before and when we buy the price is $75.   Included in the price is a $10 credit to the restaurants and shops which I used for a tasty burger at the Giant Steps Lodge.  This is a real deal for a very nice resort.

Note: Over the last few years, we have written about skiing Mammoth Lakes and Squaw Valley in California, Alta and now Brian Head in Utah, Jackson Hole in Wyoming, Sun Valley and Grand Targhee in Idaho, Banff and Sunshine in Alberta,  Revelstoke and Whistler in British Columbia, and Mount Ste Anne and Le Massif in Quebec.  Check out Canada Ski Trips  and  USA Ski Trips  .
