This past Sunday Cathy and Melissa did a day trip to Prince Edward County. The reason for the trip was to pick up from an off-print dealer the book ‘The Clearing’, written by John Craig (1975). It is one of the best novels about Stoney Lake and the Peterborough area. The Clearing is just two lots from where we have our cottage and we wanted to add this history to our cottage library.
Of course when you go to Prince Edward County, it is easy to get seriously side tracked. Cathy and Melissa picked up some nice white wines from family owned Lacey Estates and Granite Hill, both located on Closson Hill Rd.
Then they chose some more nice white wine and a lunch at The Old Third Vineyard and Winery,
They walked the fields at Prince Edward County Lavender.
And they bought some yarn at a local alpaca farm, The Shed.
It is a 1 1/2 hour drive from Stoney Lake south through Havelock, Campbellford and Carrying Place on Highways 30 and 41, and then to Closson Road, the golden mile of Prince Edward County wineries. All of the visited businesses were respectful of COVID 19 protocols and were not busy. The proprietors asked that we get the word out that they are open for business.
