Grand Canyon of Yellowstone – Day 3 of 4

Scroll down to content

IMG_3382Today is Day 3 in Yellowstone National Park, and our destination is the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River.   We start off at bison speed.  Once we really get going, our route takes us past Yellowstone Lake and up to the Grand Canyon.

The Upper and Lower Falls dominate the canyon landscape and there are several good trails into the canyon and lookouts on the canyon rim.  The canyon walls are predominately yellow rock and its easy to see why the early travelers called this place Yellowstone.

Next we walked through the West Thumb Geyser Basin where geysers and hot springs flow directly into Yellowstone Lake.

Our day ends back at Old Faithful Inn with a viewing of Old Faithful Geyser and some wine and cello music.
