Our Plan for our Arctic Roadtrip – we start next week

Here is our plan for our Arctic Roadtrip.

Update: We completed this epic roadtrip successfully and with a lifetime of stories and memories.  Check out the final story at Arctic Roadtrip – Its a wrap.

Recommendation: The Facebook Group Driving the Dempster Highway   has many posts about this bucket list roadtrip.  We suggest that you join this group.

Cathy and I start our Arctic Road Trip next week, and we are getting excited.  We picked up our new Tear Drop Trailer in late April and hauled it to our summer cabin through a foot of snow from a spring storm.  The camp site reservations are made.  Now we are provisioning the trailer for our 17,000 kilometre round trip from Toronto to the Canadian Arctic.  Most of the time we are camping because the national and provincial / state / territorial parks are the most scenic spots, with overnights in hotels to clean up.

Our plan for our Arctic Roadtrip includes a few detours

We travel the north shore of Lake Superior, across the Canadian Prairies through Winnipeg, Regina and Calgary.  Then we spend some days in Banff and Glacier National Parks and meet up with the extended family in Whistler for our nephew’s wedding.  Then up through the BC interior to Whitehorse / Skagway, over to Anchorage, then through Denali National Park and over to Dawson of Klondike fame in the Yukon.  Next up the Dempster Highway to Inuvik and Tuk(toyaktuk) on the Arctic Ocean.  We will backtrack through Whitehorse and then come east through Edmonton, Saskatoon and Winnipeg.

Bucket List

Swim in the Arctic Ocean, northern lights, maybe polar bears, Dempster  Highway, Alaska, Yukon, North West Territories.  When finished, Catgt abd I can brag that we have now been to all US states and all Canadian provinces and territories.

About campsite reservations

It is easy to pre-book campsites using the provincial web sites.  However, Glacier NP in British Columbia is first come, first served, as are all Alaska state campgrounds and Yukon territorial campgrounds.
